This time it is the 47 type of 701XX.
701XX is Levi's vintage 5 pocket jeans.
By the way, 701 is a women's model number and is completely different from 501 in terms of fabric and silhouette.
I'm excited to see what new discoveries I'll make.

levis Vintage 701XX silhouette

Since it is a women's item, it is completely different from 501.
That's what I'd like to say, but it's not far away.
There's a big reason for that.
It means that the ears are used for the armpits.

What do you mean? Some people may think so, so I will only briefly explain it.
Since the edges of the fabric are used on the sides, the part where the edges are visible will be 100% straight.

This is because the fabric before cutting into each part is a rectangle, and the edges of the rectangle are the ears. The fact that the edge of the rectangle is used as the edge of the body means that it can only be a straight line.
This is what it looks like when you put it in the mold.

In that case, it becomes difficult to express the shape with feminine curves. However, it is not the same shape as 501.
Regarding the side lines, the curve in the unused part of the ears is stronger than in 501, and the rise is deep enough that it seems that it was intended to be worn with a high waist.
And there is a considerable difference in the curve of the buttocks.
(If you say it's just a difference in silhouette, that's it.)

Even if you look at the slope of the front, you can't really tell it's jeans.
Still interesting

The ground seams are sewn with thick thread.
This has the same specifications as the 501, and the 701 is probably around 11 ounces compared to the 501, which is around 13 ounces, but was the strength required here the same?
Or was it just sewn on the same production line? I had so many questions, but I was glad that they were sewn together with thick thread.

The stitching on the coin pocket is sewn using a single-line sewing machine, and the stitching is a little disorganized. This is also a specification often seen on 501s.
Why is it so chaotic? Let's think about it.
First, use a single wire sewing machine to tap the edge of the coin pocket.
Instead of sewing twice, fold the thread over and sew the inner stitches without cutting.
This is how it is sewn.
Therefore, when sewing the inner stitches, it is difficult to see your hand and it is difficult to make even stitches.
Yeah, I'm sure this is it. That's my answer.

The coin pocket opening uses ears.
That's a common story.
The grain of the fabric on the opposite side is different from that of the coin pocket, so the coin pocket has large wrinkles.
Those wrinkles are nice.

Curves on the sides of the front body.
As mentioned above, from the part where the ears disappear, there is a fairly rounded shape towards the waist.

Hidden rivets are also used on this item.
The fact that there is a hidden rivet is also noteworthy, but what catches your eye is the single thread that runs horizontally above it.
This is proof that the striking stitches are sewn with one stroke, and this is also one of the details that I really like.

The rivets on the front pocket span the belt.
Is this intentional?
I think it's a coincidence, but there are some items in Lee that seem intentional, so I don't think so.

As mentioned above, if you compare it with 501, you can clearly see that it is curved.

levis Vintage 701XX forward slope

As mentioned above, pay attention to the slope of the front body.
Even though it's a ladies' outfit, I think they still wear jeans and wear armpits.

levis Vintage 701XX Yoke switching

levis Vintage 701XX Yoke switching
The size balance of the switching of the back body is very different from 501.
This is actually very interesting and worth paying attention to.
It's design, right? It is very easy to dismiss it as such, but by exploring other possibilities, you can arrive at a more enjoyable and deeper interpretation.

The results of my thoughts on that are not by design.
This is for scale.
I first told you that it has a high-waisted design and is for women.
A high waist means less difference from the back to the front of the waistline.
If the width of the yoke is determined by cutting the back piece to match the length of the front piece...
Differences in width occur depending on the slope.

That probably doesn't make any sense.
It's difficult to explain!
