I am not just any pattern maker. Based in my workshop in Kojima, Kurashiki, I engage in daily pattern design, but my ambitions stretch beyond that. Through a project called "Digging into Clothing," I explore and share the allure of vintage items. Additionally, I have launched our own brand, "FUKUBORI," which offers products full of originality.

My passion for craftsmanship was ignited by the gap between ideals and reality. About 20 years ago, after facing the harsh reality that landing a job at my dream brand was out of reach, I decided instead to start from the ground up in the manufacturing scene and set my sights on Tokyo. I joined a company in Okayama that handled OEM, bursting with hope for the future. However, shortly after starting my career, I was confronted with a disappointing truth. The brands I thought I loved were more about licensing deals and had little dedication to the craftsmanship I valued. Despite this, working in domestic production sites allowed me to discover brands with an obsessive attention to detail—a pivotal experience for me.

The foundation of all my activities is a dream: to deeply engage with creative manufacturing worldwide and play a significant role in it. Going beyond my pattern design work, through initiatives like "Digging into Clothing" and "FUKUBORI," I collaborate with designers and artists both domestically and internationally, creating innovative and appealing products.

I hope these efforts will encourage more people to visit Kojima and shine a light on the profession of pattern making. I believe these experiences will eventually pave my way to becoming a globally recognized denim pattern maker.
